The boredom of finishing...

The boredom of finishing.
Laser printer died had to go back to decals for a few. Not sure why I took so many pictures but here they are...

After 3 seal coats of thin nitro on top of the cured oil it gets flattened out with some 600 grit. We are not trying to fill the grain or anything just shrink wrap the top in nitrocellulose so we can buff it and make it shine. Still needs to be really thin and feel like wood though.

Next we tape off the top with something that won't bleed and will leave a sharp line. Then a little masking tape skirt to protect from over spray.

Some shot coats on the headstock to protect the decals.

Is that color?

Why yes. Yes it is.

Is that a burst?

Why yes. Yes it is.

Lemon yellow with an amber orange burst. Subtle.

And we have a nice line

Shot coats on the back as well. I might make these satin in the end. It looks pretty good shiny though.

Decals for the wookiee and the headless

Headless still needs some cure time. It got a 4 coats of oil where the others only got 2 coats. It is not getting any nitro.

Zero is now the Corsair. I might finish this thing someday.

What a mess.

New 8 String Models

So this is the first pass at the new 8 String S9 Multiscale.
It is going to be 26-28" with Dual Diablo Multiscale Blade humbuckers. I am planning on adding single coils blades as well as hot rails style blades as an option. I plan on starting the first prototype soon.
This is not a technical drawing but a quick sketch.
S9 8 String Chronos Multiscale

I decided that a 27.5" scale 8 might be worth developing for guys who don't like Multiscales. Again this is not a technical drawing but a quick sketch.

Weekend felt longer than it was

Neck for the Red Witch II fresh from the CNC

And on to the body cuts.

While the CNC is running the body it is time to work on the headstock and fix the frets that are full of epoxy.

Glued up the head plate.

What is the CNC doing anyway?

Prepping the body blank for the unnamed guitar. The top and blank are really close to the size of an S9. I had to use the template and make sure it did not slip or move during the glue up.

All glued up

On the CNC we get a look at the body sides for the first time.

Time to fix up the headstock

And here we are

And back to the other 7 string I was working on that I changed my mind on its top. Finally decided on one. Figured Tigerwood.

Added the tigerwood headplate
