Making Bobbins 2

Assembling the bobbins... the holes are accurately drilled in the center piece. Then I glue the bottom and drill out the holes. Then glue the top and drill the holes through. Almost forgot on one set ... that would have made it difficult.

We want to go from the square bobbin

To the rounded bobbin.... I realize these are not the same bobbin. (who is telling this story anyway)

We need a sled... contraption... thing that fits in our guide slot on the disk sander.

After we build it we need to drill the guide pins so we mark a line the correct depth (from the sander wheel) for the finished bobbin and drill one hole.

Next we stick the bobbin on the guide pin and drill another guide pin hole.

With 2 guide pins we attach the bobbin to the guide pins. It should fit snug... I ended up having to tap the pins out to get the bobbins off the jig without breaking the them.

Now we cut the first side by sliding the sled through the guide

After you do one side flip the bobbin and do the other side.

Allright... so next up is the end radius. Remove one guide pin. Now slide the jig into the disk and rotate the bobbin. Be careful as it is easy to take to much.

For the pole side I use 7/64" bits instead of pickup slugs

  1. Why do I always feel like you make things harder than they have to be?
